How to Teach Kid’s Nutrition : Daily Vegetables for Children

Hi, I’m Pam on behalf of Expert Village and
today we’re going to talk about eating healthy and physical activity in four and five year
olds. The green stripe right here represents the vegetable group. Now the recommended daily
allowance for children four to five years is one and a half to two cups. Now you want
to make sure that you’re eating a variety of vegetables each week, including dark green
and leafy vegetables such as lettuce or cabbage, orange vegetables such as carrots or red vegetables
such as the ones found in red peppers or even yellow peppers and tomatoes. You want to have
starchy types like potatoes or even sweet potatoes would be better than that. Or you
want to have dried beans or peas. Now vegetables are really important because they are high
in protein, iron, zinc, carbohydrates, vitamins, fibers, and minerals. They’re important for
the growth of healthy hair and teeth, gums, skin, and eyes. Now you may be wondering what’s
a cup. Well, one up is one up of either cooked or chopped raw vegetables, like cooked green
beans, a cup of chopped cauliflower, a cup of chopped carrots, or a cup of cooked carrots
of peas, one cup of vegetable juice, or two cups of raw leafy greens like the lettuce
or the cabbage. And that’s all for vegetables.
