Meet the Maker: Vermont Food Venture Center

we all know that to be a small
entrepreneur or to own a small farm can be a tough business. We know that most
people think you’re a tad crazy to add a business venture to your already full
life. The Center for an Agricultural Economy is here because we believe in
your idea that’s why we built the Vermont Food Venture Center. The Food
Venture Center is our best tool to help our clients fulfill their dreams. We want
them to define their path to success so that we can help them get there smoothly
and safely. You know it took us from nothing in just an idea in our heads and
sort of incubated it into actual business. They have worked to help us put
together a plan for processing here you know a lot of those kinds of things
for a farmer is out of their field of experience. We’re all excited we still
are excited about biochar but we needed somebody that kind of heard us in and
give us the direction we needed to move forward with this company and that’s
what it did for us. Whether it’s business planning and advising, understanding your
market and how to reach it, or getting the best food safety and regulatory
processes in place, or scaling up your recipe for large batch volumes, our staff
is here to help. In a nutshell it wouldn’t have been possible without that
I mean one of the hardest things when you start is expanding your little
recipe that you make in your little kitchen, right, to like not only in food
safety regulations as far as pH and temperature and bottling and all that
but as far as you know keeping the flavor of what you’re making at home
but getting it be really big. I didn’t have to spend $50,000 before I made my
first bottle of hot sauce and so it gave me the opportunity to grow my business
from you know my like back porch with the burners up until the point where I
could afford to spend the fifty thousand dollars on equipment. We don’t want to
give you a cookie cutter solution we mold our solutions to your business
needs. If we can be helpful even if it’s simply connecting you to other resources
we will be. They’re very helpful in helping us
network with other individuals, also the opportunities to have workshops in
financial things and marketing, you get some sort of real boots-on-the-ground
feedback you know something you can’t get on the internet because you really
need somebody in life somebody who can think and put the dots together. The
consistency is an agricultural heart you know that they all care deeply about
agriculture and about Vermont agriculture and about the people
involved with Vermont agriculture. They’re helpful, they’re kind, they’re
just very generous they’re easy to work with. So it’s that helpful hand, to like
keep you moving forward and keep you going. They’re a wonderful facility that
I couldn’t do without. Without the Venture Center coming to Hardwick, Sumptuous
Syrups would never exist. The food system needs your farm or food business, and we
believe in your ability to get there. Your passion, your vision, your recipe,
your product. Our kitchens and our services are here to help you get
growing!
