My Fitness Journey: Ellen Niedringhaus

being cool with where you are with where I was at that time it was a message that I hadn't received and didn't know that I needed so deeply hi I'm Ellen and this is my fitness journey I was in my early 20s several friends of mine had been trying yoga and so I thought that it was something that I wanted to just give a go and see see what I thought about it I started out my goals were very like pose oriented you know it's like when you see like a cool pose on Instagram or on a magazine or I don't even know what people read magazines anymore and I'm really grateful at this point that I was in that phase before Instagram and Facebook or as big as they are now because I feel like I would have put even more pressure on myself to get that Instagram perfect shot the teachers that I was taking classes from started introducing the concepts of self-acceptance and non judgement and just being being cool with where you are with where I was at that time it was a message that I hadn't received and didn't know that I needed so deeply over 15 years of practicing I've gotten injured I adopted two kids I got married you know so there have been like tons of life changes that have happened I've gotten older my priorities and my practice have changed and now it's more about maintaining a healthy body I'm able to like get on the ground and play with my kids or you know like move around in a way that's functional versus theatrical it's very important to me now to be a well like oiled machine basically as a mama and a wife and a business owner every day I get to do what I love and is empowering other people and pushing myself and others to be the highest version of ourselves that we can be through these teachings to through this practice I feel like my whole point almost of being here as striving to do God justice for bringing me here in the first place and using the tools that I have and continuing to improve on that consistently and really unremitting way for the time that I'm here so that I can hopefully do something good my biggest influence is my students or really just the individuals that come into my classes and that give me the position and the privilege and the honor to teach them it's a position that holds a lot of responsibility in a way that you know very often I feel like I ask people in my classes to do something that is unfamiliar territory or even uncomfortable whether that's standing on their hands or going upside down or you know moving into a physical space they can be scary for some people you know keeping that in mind I think it can be easier to just start at home and your sweats in your living room no one's watching you you know like just totally comfortable environment once people do feel the very very tangible benefits of the way that this practice makes them feel and they gain even just a slight edge or a little bit more confidence going to find a local studio with certified teachers and taking the time also to shop around at studios you can try a few classes and see how you like it and then find a teacher at that studio that will work with you that you trust that you feel comfortable with so that they can learn your body your limitations it will really I think offer the practitioner the benefits of this practice in a safe and efficient relationship I've been through a lot of ups and downs in my practice whether it's just the way that I'm feeling energetically or you know things going on with my body mental health this practice has taught me to just be with where I am no matter whether I choose to look at it as good or bad but just kind of like being with it looking back would I do anything differently no every success and failure and injury and experience has brought me where I am today and I am very deeply and genuinely content you
