FORECAST JUST AHEAD. MARK: THANK YOU. THE FOOD BANK IS NOW GETTING SOME MUCH-NEEDED HELP FROM A LOCAL NATIONAL GUARD UNIT. FOOD BANK OFFICIALS SAY THEY HAVE LIMITED STAFF BUT AN INCREASE IN CLIENTS OF LATE. DEVERO BOGART JOINS US WITH HOW THE OHIO NATIONAL GUARD IS ALSO RESPONDING TO THE CORONAVIRUS. REPORTER: 25 MEMBERS OF BATTALION 837 OUT OF SPRINGFIELD HAVE BEEN HERE AT THE FOOD BANK HELPING WITH FOOD PACKING AND DISTRIBUTION AND THE CHIEF DEVELOPMENT OFFICER OF THE FOOD BANK THE HELP IS GREATLY NEEDED AS THEY HAVE NO OTHER VOLUNTEERS ON SITE. FOOD BANKS ARE BEING RECOGNIZED AS ESSENTIAL OPERATIONS. THIS MEANS THE FOOD BANK IN DAYTON WILL CONTINUE TO SERVE THE MIAMI VALLEY DURING THIS, BUT WILL BE SLOW ON — LOW ON STAFF. THE GOVERNER IS DEPLOYING THE OHIO NATIONAL GUARD TO 12 FOOD BANKS ACROSS THE STATE. RIGHT NOW WHAT WE’RE DOING TODAY IS THE DISTRIBUTION, PACKAGING AND TRANSPORTATION OF FOOD TO THESE VULNERABLE POPULATIONS AND THAT COULD GROW IN THE NEAR FUTURE TO OTHER MISSIONS. REPORTER: TODAY 25 MEMBERS OF BATTALION 837 OUT OF SPRINGFIELD SPENT THE DAY AT THE DAYTON FOOD BANK, PACKING BOXES TO DELIVER TO THE ELDERLY AND LOADING A LONG LINE OF TRUNKS AT THE DRIVE-THROUGH DISTRIBUTION. COLONEL WOODROUGH WITH THE OHIO NATIONAL GUARD SAYS IT’S NOT THE FIRST TIME THEY HAVE HELPED DURING HOMELAND EMERGENCIES. THIS IS ONE OF THE CORE MISSIONS OF THE NATIONAL GUARD
