Recycled Newspaper Boxes Bring Food to Those Who Need It

Recycled Newspaper Boxes Bring Food to Those Who Need It

hi I’m Mike and today I have a question
for you what does a recycled newspaper box a park and a bag of rice-a-roni have
in common Hey good morning yet how are you all right this morning we are heading to
Rapid City South Dakota we’ve got the the trailer on and we’re going to Rapid
City South Dakota we are going to avoid human contact as much as possible but
we’ve got about a two-hour drive ahead of us and why are we going to Rapid City
South Dakota we are picking up newspaper dispensers for the free little pantry
Network that’s what we use for yeah for the pantries is cycled newspaper
dispensers and what are the pantries it’s a place where you can get food it’s
there in our parks it’s similar to like a lending library with books except for
its food and it’s just a take what you can take what you need leave what you
can type system and edible Prairie project along with sensible nutrition is
who maintains them here in Gillette so we are working to get more pantries in
more parks at the Eventide convalescence center
every third Saturday dad and I would go eat dinner with aunt opal who is 88 and
I was picking at my food when an old black man sat down at the table by me he
looked me in the eye and said how do you do my name’s cushion berry said I was
born in an all-black town in Kansas called Nicodemus it world war two was an
Army medic then settled in Topeka I was fortunate to have a good mom and dad who
taught me all about God’s grace the same way son that yours have or you wouldn’t
be here today you can always find
that’s got it worse help him if you can God put us on this earth
help our fellow if you go out you return because the time we spend just
in regards a little happy he said four years I gave away food and
clothes had a Christian mission stove had a sign that read for the needy not
the greedy but hung above the door I like to think I gave hope and dreams to
folks who didn’t have any son I saw things that just shouldn’t be here in
the land of plenty you can always find someone that’s got it worse help them if
you can God put us on this earth to help our
fellow if you go out of your way to hell
your return spins just paying for God’s little they told me mumbling something
down waiting on the other side you can always
that’s not a word got food if you go you because the time we
to this day with all his friends on god’s little
half all right in case you were wondering
it’s called the Gillette free little pantry network and this is exactly what
they look like so all it is is just a recycled newspaper box and inside this
one has been cleaned out and needs to be restocked okay
let’s try this one again and see here’s another free little pantry in another
different Park and this one does have some stuff in it so we’ve got some rice
side cream of mushroom soup so there’s a little some stuff in here and basically
the gist of it is is you know take it as you need it and you know if you have
extra to replace at some point so that’s the Gillette free little pantry program
you know I as a kid I went through a period where we were hungry so it’s
actually a really good thing and it helps a lot of people out so in reality it’s easy to ask yourself
why bother why blow an entire day to go over and pick up a bunch of newspaper
dispensers why spend your time getting them painted and clear coated and
putting them out in the parks and then filling them up with stuff constantly
and and you know it just seems like a lot of work that we don’t really get
anything out of but here in just a couple seconds I’m going to show you
exactly why we bother all right you guys want to go check cows
you want to check cows graze yeah okay guys ready all right let’s go do you
guys think there’s gonna be any baby cows I hope so but every time I say
there is there probably there’s trust me here’s a cow’s tail up yeah I think there’s some towels pointing out there
look at them they’re all spread out here she comes she’d run it she stalled
the cake alright guys we’re gonna call this video good for today I want to
thank you guys for being such good kids and coming out and checking cows with me
and and I know I was gone all day long and mom was gone all day long but we
talked about you a lot while we were gone and we’re glad that you guys had
fun and thank you for checking cows can you say goodbye to everybody you

  1. Good morning and have a great day. You all are beautiful people. Also great taste in Thank you for all your hard work. Lots of love in AZ.๐Ÿ’•๐Ÿ™

  2. Thank you Mike. I know these vlogs are extra work for you but you sure are keeping some of us sane by watching and bringing us along on OWL. Stay safe and God Bless….

  3. Thank you for doing all you do. You are a glowing example of what we should all be doing to support our communities. <3

  4. When I was a kid I was hanging around about 30 cows in a feild I did this frequently but one day 3 of them ran over me and tried to mangle me I was fortunately a little weasel and went under one and escaped over a fence do you ever worry about that ps they never attacked me again after that. Any explanation. Luca

  5. The work you and Erin do from the EPP to these mini pantry boxes will only help unite your community. Giving without expecting anything back is what its all about.
This is a message that should reverberate throughout the country and world.
The things we can learn from a rancher also apply to every walk of life.
Keep it up we're all counting on you and those like you.

  6. What a great video. Good idea on the boxes. Helps people in need. I give food to the high school for kids that need a lunch. Its instant food they can heat up in the microwave. Cup of noodles.

  7. Thanks to you and the boss your wonderful wife that show her love of the people.
Yes mike she makes you a better man too.

  8. That's an Awesome idea, what a way to distribute ๐Ÿ‘!
    Thanks for helping !
    JO JO IN VT ๐Ÿ’•๐Ÿ˜„

  9. What a BEAUTIFUL project. In my town, a few families would take everything in every box, try to sell it on FB marketplace and then take the newspaper boxes to the scrap yard…โ€ฆ ALL while the police watched and did nothing. One of these treasured families, bought 1000 rolls of TP and are now trying to sell them for 8.00 each, THIS is the type of people who occupy our part of the country and it is a blessing to see folks like you occupy that part of the country. We are saving HARD to move to a state where we can by land and leave all of this behind.

  10. God bless you both thank you for caring

  11. I was blessed growing up that we never went hungry we went without a lot of stuff but we never went hungry so thank you for what you all do

  12. As I always at they make ranch work fun you just root for these people and then come to love them and want to support I wear my owl sweatshirt proudly and I've live in los Angeles never even been on a farm like there's but live and support them and unlike Bloomberg I know where my food cones from Erin Mike's of this country who work 7 days and still help homeless blooms ok?

  13. Not a waste of time or effort when you are helping the less fortunate – well worth it! Thank you for another awesome vlog, and great job Kenzie and Gracie checking cows! Have a great week!

  14. Mike I do believe that you and your wife have a big heart โค๏ธ for your neighbors! For that I love and respect you both. Thanks Mike a great looking family God has blessed you with.

  15. Thank you mate for another great blog and for what you do. Kudos to you too Erin. I hope graces right foot is getting better as it looks like she was limping or was it the left foot. You ask why? To that I say, โ€œwhy notโ€. Be safe and keep well.

  16. Great set of values and work ethics. Glad I was lucky enough to find this channel. I'm blest, time find some volunteer work to help the needy.

  17. Bless you Mike, your a good man. We have so much to be thankful for in this world. I really enjoyed the song you had on the radio. Gods Little Half Acre

  18. Your girls are adorable. Love your channel. I think I'm liking it even more since you are doing the vlog. God bless you and your family. To help the helpless is a good thing to do. You are teaching you kids well. How did the air b and b do?

  19. "Gettin" 'er done" Cowboy style! Way to go Mike and Erin for doing an awesome job. Woohoo! Your an inspiration to us all.

  20. Mike.. need to wash the dash of your truck with soap and water for at least 30 seconds ๐Ÿ˜†๐Ÿ˜†๐Ÿ˜ remember our basic hygiene rules ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿค”๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜

  21. Being from KANSAS, growing up on a dairy farm just outside a small town. The song reflects the town I was raised in. Good folks. And itโ€™s very apropos to the times we find ourselves in now. Thank you for sharing that song and message.

  22. Bless you Bought ! ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸโœ”
    ๐ŸŒŽโ›ต๐Ÿฌ๐ŸŒ โœจ

  23. put RainX on your windshield. It makes scraping the ice much easier. Or, lay an old shower curtain liner across it. No scraping..

  24. Love the PaperBox Pantry you'll are working on! Thank you so much for sharing!!! :-))

  25. My dad grew up in those parts. 7 kids with little work. He's told me stories of having to poach to feed. The funniest is about his mom cooking a porcupine that even the dog wouldn't touch. He swears he still gets a whiff of it every now & again. Thankful that he raised us knowing about true hardship. โœŒ๏ธโค๏ธ

  26. Hey Mike first of all what a great idea Whoever thought of this deserves a medal there are different kinds of ways to help people and this is one of the best I ever heard of to keep someone from being hungry and I like to give and take method hopefully this idea was spread across the country and a big THANK YOU to you and Erin for taking the time out of your busy lives to give a helping hand with this that was really sweet of your girls to come with you to check for calves and I love the day to day videos it gives you a more realistic feel to life on the ranch so what's next for our Wyoming life keep up the good work and see you in the next video ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿค ๐Ÿ‚๐Ÿ˜‰

  27. Hi Mike, we have similar pantries all over New Zealand. It's wonderful to see kind people who are raising their children with love and kindness. You guys are great parents, who are setting awesome examples for your girls! ๐Ÿ˜Š Kim in New Zealand

  28. You are constantly giving of yourselves. What an example you are to so many others. I love the idea of the mini food pantries. I am going to see about doing something similar through our local food bank and my church. God bless you both

  29. Yes. Those sweet little girls are a very good reason to do the food pantry network. Teach the young ones – while they are young ones – to help those in need. And the future has just that much more assurance that things will get better. Thank you.
Also, thank you for letting us watch you with your girls. I'm 67, lost my father 18 years ago – and i so miss him. You made my heart feel better – even if i did have to cry for a bit.

  30. I love the idea of the pantry program and what all you and Erin do to help the ones that are less fortunate. My stepmother started a soup kitchen out in Ohio and she does or opens the kitchen on Mondays and Wednesdays and the 3rd or 4th wednesdays of the month she serves a big meal kinda like a Thanksgiving dinner and they serve close to 400 including shutins and home delivery and the other days Mondays and Wednesdays they also deliver on those days also, And everyday they feed and deliver they serve 275 plus and theres more closer to 400 on the 3rd or 4th Wednesday. And it takes alot of volunteers to make it work. And when family goes home to visit they to help out in the soup kitchen.

  31. Thank you for doing this for your community! Maybe one day when I'm financially stable I will be able to do this too. May God bless you all!

  32. When you consider one day used by you can make many days for others, it doesn't seem like a big deal. Thanks for your service. ๐Ÿ‘

  33. What a clever idea!! To recycle those newspaper dispensers into little free pantry dispensers. I have seen too many of those dispensers go to scrap.
At the end of the day , do chores together. Nothing like family checking on the four legged family. Everyone take good care of yourself and those closest you๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿ‘๐ŸŒŸ๐Ÿ’ž

  34. Got too many things to do around the place during the day. But once darkness comes and I go inside this is the first thing I look for.

  35. Never seen those boxes down here in south Texas but a hellofan idea. Bless your hearts in these crazy times we live in. Probably won't get out of the house until Thursday but going to make it a point to look for someone in need. They're not plentiful around where I live but this video motivates me to at least keep an eye out. Lord knows we have everything we need so maybe we can help someone else out. Plus we have our severely autistic grandson staying with us so maybe we can turn it into a teaching moment.

  36. I cant Thank everyone enough for watching "My 30 Vlogs in 30 days". I hope everyone stays healthy, and well in this time of "social distancing" , and I believe we shall make it thru this pandemic. Thanks again, Mike & Erin

  37. its like a lend"a"library the people have started using it as a pantry and i think its great hugssssss from Ont. Canada

  38. What an awesome program! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ

  39. Great job You guys! What was the first snippet of music? It was nice and lively!๐ŸŽผ๐ŸŽธ๐ŸคŸ

  40. Keep a spray bottle of rubbing alcohol in your truck and when your windshield is iced up, just spray it with alcohol and itโ€™ll all fall off by itself kind of automatically.

Itโ€™s probably as close as will ever get to anything really โ€œmagicโ€œ.

In reality, water and alcohol are โ€œmiscibleโ€œ which means they mix together very well and the alcohol lowers the freezing point of the water, so unless itโ€™s -200 outside, youโ€™re good to go.

  41. Iโ€™m so glad I found your channel. You are truly great people and should be proud of all you do!
