my name is Sarah Marquez and I am a mother of seven in March of 2011 I was hit by a car and the accident balded me having a broken leg when they came to do the surgery that they discovered that there was too much nerve and tissue damage so I opted for the amputation so that I could get back on my feet and start living life again everybody thought it was going to bring me down but it didn't it did the opposite it made me fight harder for for me for my kids I'm very independent so the hardest part was getting dressed taking showers my meals going up and down the stairs on my house after I got my prosthetic I started to do some physical therapy the physical therapists had recommended that I seek a gym and I remember there was a 24-hour fitness not far from my home so I went and paid them a visit and decided that this was gonna be the perfect fit for me when I first saw Sarah I remember her limping and I could tell she had a prosthesis but what also struck me was her attitude like she was eager to get started wanted results I was open to suggestions and so I was eager to get started with it well I wanted to say what started out slow but we really didn't because I could think you could see that I could do things that maybe even I thought I couldn't do we quickly learned that there was strategies we could discover to incorporate the prosthesis into pretty much any exercise we wanted there's a way to just adjust the exercise and then she can just do it and then blow past people who have both legs doing the same exercise but she got great results and so I think a long time ago we stopped thinking about the prosthesis as a limit it's funny cuz people to ask Ryan what he was training me for so I'm gonna use what he said that he's training me for life so I think that's that's the that's the big thing is that I was I was doing this for myself get back on my feet and be someone of the normal person that I used to be before you know with with my Limor without my limb Sarah's greatest gift is her attitude I've never met anyone like her I've never heard her complain I've never heard her like be skeptical of an outcome I think it's possible for her and I always refer to her with my clients about saying this is the kind of attitude you need to have to be successful I've been working out with Ryan since about 2012 and we worked out six to eight times per week it's just a driving force but I guess he sees in me and that he sees that I have you don't want to let her down and because she gives so much of herself and she's so warm and she seeks new experiences and so she inspires me to think outside the box I've created so many exercises just because we've gone through so many already it's like let's do something new and after like really be creative and I think I would also say like we get each other in some really special ways like I'll just know she'll love this song that maybe make helps her relax like I'll just know I'll hear a song and be like and so I'll I'll give her a mix tape a playlist and she'll tell me she listened to it and it helped her relax that just affirms how special my relationship is with her I always feel like when we meet it's something educational I learn about something from him or we share about an article that has to do with amputation or the brain just it's just a it's a it's a workup and it's a it's a education in the self as well I used to think I didn't want to let him down but I don't wanna let myself down I want to be able to do the workout and know that I've go to workout I've told them I hate to sweat and when I'm sweating I know that I'm working out the progress that I've made is in my my balance in my core being able to walk simple things that would take for granted I'm whole I'm feeling like my like my normal self before people tell me you know did being amputated makes me different I tell them no I don't even think about that sometimes it's funny to watch how where she succeeds and others give up too soon it's her greatest gift is this personality that just accepts all challenges and moves on past goals with an attitude of what's coming what's next I feel great about myself I want to keep doing what I'm doing and my my challenge actually believe it or not is to do a cartwheel and to get back into my heels I have heels that I haven't worn as I want to get back into you
