The Role of Dietary Supplements

The Role of Dietary Supplements

hi I'm dr. Fred Sutter today we're going to talk about supplementation and why that's important in pain management and in general health what's there's two distinctions is one is that how much do you take can do I need to be afraid of them how good are they and who's watching this manufacturing process so that I know that I'm getting what I think I'm getting firstly no one needs perfectly and they've done studies with 70,000 people the Department of Agriculture to see if anybody makes their RDA or the recommended daily allowance of all the essential nutrients and no one did a seventy thousand so I think we can safely assume that there's gaps in our diet especially with the way things are farmed these days if you don't know that most businesses do not supplement with minerals particularly and back in 1939 they actually recommended replacing the minerals lost in the soils from the constant turnover they don't let the the field sit and fallow for a year like they do an organic trade they let them sit every seven years old I'm sitting fallow for a year so the point being is that we have a lot of gaps and we have to fill them somehow and if you're off your balance you're off your center point and pain is an issue you really have to fill them because what has perpetuated that that whole scenario is probably some nutritional deficiencies now let's talk about the quality of some of these products over-the-counter products have a wide variety of fillers they probably don't always carry what they say they carry on the label and there are certain institutions that are watchdogs for that like cgmp or certified good manufacturing processes that's a standard FDA certification that is important to know that you're testing your products before and after and in fact our products are tested before during tallying and after tableting so it's very important to know that you're getting what you they anticipate getting theirs if you if you're getting a lower dose then and typically you can see this in a in a product if you're going to get a bottle of 500 tablets for 10 or 12 bucks you probably are not getting what's supposed to be in there the second watchdog for us you know would be the National Science Foundation or NSF that should be on the label as well that's been around for ever many years it's been a consumer protection organization for almost a hundred years and then lastly TGA which our product also have which is therapeutic goods association which is the highest standard much higher than actually in the United States and it's an Australian certification and our manufacturing facility actually had that has that and in addition they worked with the FDA even in the beginning of when they were building their manufacturing plants they've worked with the FDA and followed their guidelines on that basis so how do you we use these I mean in in are an art program the paint elimination program there's multiple pages where we give recommended doses for helping people who have inflammation this is an important piece of this whole process of rebalancing and it's it's insidious which means that it just kind of creeps up on you you're too busy with family or work or all the other things that go along with a fast-paced life today and slowly things creep it a little less sleep a little more caffeine I was talking to one of my patients the other day who is living on Red Bull and not eating appropriate lady wonder why he was tired well you know just because you're drinking five Red Bulls a day doesn't mean that you're going to have a lot of energy and he wasn't feeling himself properly even though he had a few other things going for him like he was actually now focusing on his sleep as last year he was not even sleeping so all these things just tend to creep up on us and then we wonder and we suppress our symptoms I mean we're not paying – the signs and symptoms of being burnout or tired or that achy elbow now is joined by an achy shoulder or you know pain in your heel or back pain all those things can slowly creep up on you and then finally reach a critical mass how to manage that is creating some balance with supplementation good healthy lifestyle choices and making sure you're taking good quality supplements at the right doses so look for further information look online at physician nutrients calm you can buy the pain management program there the pain elimination program and you can review the supplements that we have available thanks for listening
